Grapevine-Colleyville, TX ' District staff reported continuing HVAC failures at Colleyville Heritage High School (CHHS) after a summer project to replace building piping, telling trustees on Aug. 25 that the work exposed extensive internal corrosion and sediment that has clogged units.
Paula, the district's facilities presenter, said the project replaced chilled- and hot-water piping on the building's first floor but that older piping on the second and third floors remains in place and has proved fragile when reactivated. She described the volume of debris found during backwashing: "this is the reason for the project," and showed an example of sediment removed from a single unit that had to be flushed.
The contractor and district maintenance staff worked through the weekend before the first day of school to backwash strainers and unclog coils. Paula reported that late Friday the team had reduced the number of rooms with inadequate cooling to a small handful and that additional parts and repairs were being scheduled. She said a unit near Room C124 was reinstalled improperly relative to new piping and will be relocated so it can be serviced.
Board members thanked facilities staff, Lee Lewis (the construction manager), and the district's technicians for expedited work. Trustees were told a planned two-summer replacement schedule will address the remaining second- and third-floor piping; staff said the remaining work will be scheduled to minimize disruption and that they will bring specific construction or repair updates as parts arrive and as work is completed.
No formal vote was required; the report was informational. District staff listed follow-up actions including continued weekend work to remove sediment, replacement of specified valves and tees, and relocation of an inaccessible rooftop unit. The district did not provide a timeline for final completion of second- and third-floor piping replacement, noting that replacement work will continue through subsequent summers.
