Grapevine-Colleyville, TX ' The Board of Trustees on Aug. 25 adopted a resolution that declines to permit non-enrolled homeschool or private-school students to participate in Grapevine-Colleyville ISD University Interscholastic League (UIL) activities, while approving participation for students who are enrolled in the district's iUniversity Prep (IUP) program and who meet UIL eligibility standards.
Paula told trustees that Senate Bill 401 and Senate Bill 569 (as referenced in the district's briefing) changed the statutory landscape for non-enrolled students and virtual/hybrid programs. The board voted to reaffirm its existing policy (which had, since 2019, disallowed participation by non-enrolled students) via a formal resolution, and to update board policy FD local so that GCISD-enrolled virtual/hybrid students (specifically those attending iUniversity Prep and who live within district boundaries) may participate provided they meet UIL eligibility and the district's monitoring requirements.
Coach Raymond and the district's iUniversity Prep principal, Desiree Wycki, have worked on a plan to monitor course pacing and grades to ensure eligibility. The board heard trustees' concerns about fairness and the burden on coaches and staff; the policy adopted preserves the district's discretion to require eligibility, grade checks and participation conditions.
Motion and vote: Trustee AJ moved to approve the resolution and FD local update; Trustee Mary seconded. Vote: 7-0.
