The North Scott Community School District Board on June 23 approved a slate of bids to support the district’s student-built home program, awarding contracts for construction, plumbing, roofing, siding, windows, doors and lumber materials.
Staff presented low or negotiated bids including Eller Construction (construction), Peterson Plumbing, Fireplace Barbecue Warehouse (fireplace), ABC Supply (roofing and siding materials with discounts), Pella (windows), and Eldridge Lumberyard (lumber package). The packet included line-item prices and discounts; staff noted ABC Supply provided a substantial discount on roofing materials and a smaller discount on siding, and that one material vendor applied a prompt-payment discount.
Staff said Scott County waived permit fees for the project, reducing costs by a “couple thousand dollars.” They also reported that the previous student-built home sold and that this year’s project is on schedule to begin construction in July; students will intern with local businesses as part of the program.
Board members moved, seconded and approved each bid by voice vote; staff thanked local partners and noted the program’s educational and community benefits.
