Board to consider easement for Linn County REC underground power line near Kent Park

Johnson County conservation staff told the Board of Supervisors that the Conservation Board had approved a request to grant a permanent underground electric line easement to Linn County Rural Electric Cooperative (REC) for a substation serving the City of Tiffin.
Brad Friedoff, Johnson County Conservation Director, said Linn County REC purchased a parcel and requested to bore an underground electrical line under county-owned property south of F.W. Kent Park to feed the north side of Highway 6. Friedoff said the county needed to purchase a small parcel to allow the trail to go under Highway 6 and that the REC's proposal "allows them to back feed energy in." He told supervisors the conservation board and the county attorney's office had reviewed the easement and "we foresee no impacts on this."
Supervisors asked no substantive questions at that time; staff said the easement and associated purchase agreement would be placed on the board's agenda for a formal vote the following Thursday.
