County officials announced a public hearing and comment session on amendments to Salem County
Solid Waste Management Plan scheduled for May 29 at Salem Community College
Davandale (Davondale) Theater, with the meeting expected to include a vote that night.
During the public comment portion of the regular meeting, a member of the public asked how the 15 municipal representatives to the Solid Waste Advisory Council are chosen. A county official replied that the representatives are selected by each municipality
— typically by mayoral appointment or by the municipal governing body — and that each municipality has one seat on the advisory council regardless of population size.
The county noted the upcoming hearing will run late and urged interested parties to attend. The meeting record does not include details of the proposed changes to the solid waste management plan; the minutes direct interested residents to the May 29 hearing for comment and an anticipated vote that evening.
