Board reappoints tax assessor, fills recreation and greenway advisory slots; assessor sworn in

Haywood County commissioners on Aug. 18 approved a set of appointments and reappointments, including reappointing Judy Hickman as the county tax assessor for an additional four-year term and administering her oath of office.

County staff noted that general statutes require an assessor appointment every two to four years; after the board's unanimous vote, Sherry (county clerk) administered the oath. Hickman then recited the statutory oath and took the office.

The board also approved the reappointment of Ryan Newell for a second term on the Recreation Advisory Board and approved appointments to the Greenway Advisory Council: Noah Taylor (representing the town of Maggie Valley), Alex Mumbie (representing the town of Waynesville), and reappointments of Kathy Odevady and Melissa Marshall to represent hiking and lake-assembly interests respectively. All appointments were approved unanimously.

Board materials submitted the Recreation Board's recommendation and the Greenway Advisory Council nominations for the commissioners' confirmation.
