Paradise board backs use permit for Las Vegas Barbell in industrial zone

The Paradise Town Advisory Board on June 24 voted to recommend approval of a use permit that would allow Las Vegas Barbell LLC to operate a specialty Olympic weightlifting gym in an industrially zoned property in Paradise.

The permit request, filed as UC250402 by William Bybee, seeks permission to operate a personal-services fitness studio within an existing industrial complex. The advisory board approved the request “subject to staff conditions” and will forward the matter to the county planning commission for final action.

The gym owner, William Bybee, told the board the business has operated in Las Vegas for 10 years and runs a competitive team. “We run a competitive team out of the gym as well too, which is reported some success of note, including being the Masters National Champion Team,” Bybee said. He said the proposed location is in an industrial zone where the business has previously been permitted.

Board members heard no public opposition during the hearing and took a single motion to approve. The board chair closed public comment before the vote. The item is scheduled to proceed to the Planning Commission on July 15, per the board’s direction.

The approval at the Paradise advisory board is a recommending action; final permitting and any building or occupancy permits will be decided by county bodies as required.
