Council approves special-event permit for third annual New Year's Eve egg drop

The Town of Nashville approved a special-event permit for the Third Annual New Year's Eve egg drop submitted by Braswell Family Farms and scheduled for Wednesday, Dec. 31, 2025, at the Nashville Junction from 3 to 7 p.m.

Town staff described the event as family-oriented and free to attend, featuring live bands, face painting, balloon twisting, vendors, a raffle, fireworks and the egg drop. Staff asked council to open a public hearing on the permit and, after hearing from event organizers, requested council action to grant the permit.

An event representative (Trey) said the organizers expanded the schedule slightly to allow more music and noted the event had grown over prior years. Council and staff discussed security requirements: a staff member said the town can provide only one patrol officer and that off-duty sheriff's deputies or off-duty town officers would be needed. "In Sean's write up where it said security personnel, it said, off duty sheriff deputies to work the event because the town can only provide 1 patrol officer to check-in," a council member said. Council members emphasized ensuring on-duty town officers have the opportunity to work overtime shifts before hiring off-duty deputies.
