Lewis County commissioners on Sept. 9 approved a resolution directing community development staff to enter negotiations with the City of Vader on an annexation by ILA (as described in the packet) of the city’s urban growth area. The board voted 2-0 to approve deliberation items, including the annexation negotiation directive.
Mindy Brooks, director of community development, described Resolution 25-252 as directing community development to negotiate with the City of Vader regarding annexation by ILA of its urban growth area.
Why it matters: annexation and intergovernmental agreements can change municipal boundaries, service responsibilities and revenue-sharing arrangements; negotiations signal the start of a formal process but do not itself alter boundaries.
What to watch: outcomes will depend on the terms negotiated between the county and the City of Vader and any subsequent formal approvals required by law or by the parties.
