Naval Base Ventura County warns of increased aircraft activity Sept. 5–19; residents may hear daytime noise

A representative of Naval Base Ventura County told the Camarillo City Council on Sept. 10 that a multi-service aircraft, surface-vessel and unmanned-systems test and training exercise staged from Point Mugu began Sept. 5 and is expected to continue through Sept. 19, and that residents in nearby areas may experience increased noise during peak hours.
"Residents in the Camarillo, Oxnard, and Port Hueneme areas surrounding Naval Base Ventura County Point Mugu may experience some increased noise levels during peak times," said Kendall Lousine, identified in the meeting as the installation community plans and liaison officer with Naval Base Ventura County. She said peak hours are roughly 0700 to 1900 (7 a.m. to 7 p.m.) and that the base's typical airfield hours extend later, to about 2300 (11 p.m.).
Why this matters: residents near military airfields regularly experience periodic noise and the base said extended airfield hours would be required to support some test events. The notice was presented as informational during the city's public comment section; no city action was requested or taken.
Details provided: Lousine described the base as composed of three operating facilities — Point Mugu, Port Hueneme and San Nicolas Island — and said the installation hosts multiple tenant commands, including Pacific Seabees and several warfare centers. The base posted information about the exercise on its official Facebook page and Lousine offered to answer questions.
Council response: Mayor Kildee asked Lousine to clarify the military times; Lousine confirmed 1900 equals 7 p.m. and 2300 equals 11 p.m. No follow-up staff action or formal council motion was recorded.
