Larimer County Solid Waste staff told commissioners at the Sept. 15 work session that several capital and program efforts are moving forward, including infrastructure at the North Landfill, transfer-station construction, ongoing disposal-diversion programs and a grant pursuit for diversion-policy work.
Infrastructure and schedule: Staff reported that geosynthetics installation for the North Landfill began the week of the meeting and that landfill infrastructure there will be completed by October; the county remains on track for a July 1, 2026, start date for operations at the new northern landfill site. At the Taft Hill transfer station, staff said concrete was poured two weeks earlier for the foundation, walls were being formed for the next pour, and utilities, fiber and electrical work are underway.
Programs and grant pursuit: Commissioner comments praised Solid Waste Management Director Dwayne Penny for his work. Leslie Ellis said the department submitted a letter of intent to the state energy office’s accelerator grant to pursue diversion-policy adoption work. Ellis noted continuing household hazardous waste, mattress, and yard-waste organics programs at the Taft Hill facility.
Discussion vs. action: These were project and program updates; no formal funding votes or contract approvals were recorded at the meeting.
Next steps: Staff will continue construction and installations at the North Landfill and Taft Hill transfer station, pursue the state accelerator grant, and report progress to the commission.
Ending: County staff emphasized continued progress on capital work and diversion programs and thanked Solid Waste leadership for outreach and technical presentations to advisory boards.
