Residents urge tougher enforcement on encampments and call for sidewalk repairs

Several residents used the council's public comment period on Sept. 16 to urge stricter enforcement of camping and shopping‑cart ordinances and to press the city to address deteriorating sidewalks.

One speaker (identified in the meeting record as a resident speaking during general public comment) said parks and sidewalks are degrading from encampments, dumped trash and abandoned shopping carts and called for a “proactive, balanced, and enforceable” approach. A second resident raised safety concerns about cracked sidewalks and urged the council to prioritize repairs, saying the sidewalks were hazardous and could cause falls. City staff later acknowledged the sidewalk concerns as part of the ADA inventory discussion and the capital planning process.
