District staff reported progress on LCAP Goal 2 by detailing a bike and e‑scooter safety outreach partnership with the Galt Police Department.
Staff said the police have presented safety lessons at every site this month, educated students who were riding devices that may not be legal, and produced a one‑page guide for administrators and parents clarifying what devices are street legal. Staff told the board that police observed a drop in the number of e‑bikes and e‑scooters parked at McCaffrey, from roughly 10–15 down to about four the previous day, and said they have seen an increase in helmet use.
The police department has also secured some free helmets and asked principals to contact the school resource officer to arrange one‑on‑one education and helmet distribution for students in need; staff said officers are educating rather than issuing citations at this time. The presenter noted California law requires a driver’s license for certain e‑scooters and that enforcement in public areas varies.
Board members thanked the police department for outreach; one member pointed to a mayoral podcast the police participated in as a resource for parents.
