Superintendent: district meets most Senate Bill 68 safety requirements; staff to add stop-the-bleed kits and limited FEMA training

HILLSBOROUGH — Superintendent Dr. Isaacson told the board the district reviewed requirements in legislation referenced by staff as Senate Bill 68 and found the district complies with most requirements relating to emergency operations plans, site assessments and training, but identified a few items the district will address.
Dr. Isaacson said the district already has emergency operations plans and site assessments in place and provides CPR training to staff, coaches and bus drivers. The superintendent said that district health coordinator Cathy Woodham and safety coordinator Jim Ramsey reviewed the bill's requirements with him and that the district meets most items. He said two items the district does not yet meet are providing stop-the-bleed kits and offering FEMA incident command training for a limited number of staff; staff said they would order kits and provide training to nurses, counselors and district safety staff.
Dr. Isaacson also told the board that anti-intruder door locks and bullet-resistant film are not currently requirements unless the district adds doors or completes a building project; he suggested facility-committee planning consider these items for future new-construction or renovation projects but said they are not mandated for existing doors.
During the discussion the superintendent credited Ms. Woodham for the district's CPR training cadence, noting the district offers about two trainings per year and requires certain employee groups to be trained. The board received the informational report; no formal board action was required or taken on the safety report during this meeting.
