The Piedmont City Council voted unanimously to approve a fourth amendment extending the city’s agreement with Coastland Engineering and to increase the contract to allow continued engineering and construction support for projects included in the current fiscal‑year budget.
Public Works Director Daniel Gonzalez introduced the item and told council that Coastland has provided engineering services to Piedmont since 2009 and has worked on “every major capital project” in the city. Gonzalez recommended extending the contract for one additional 12‑month period to ensure continuity on design and construction management for budgeted projects.
John Wenger, representing Coastland on Zoom, thanked the council and described his firm’s local knowledge. “In my 34 years of being at Coastland and leading the company, Piedmont is my absolute favorite client,” Wenger said. He added that Coastland would “strive” to continue providing the city with service.
There were no public speakers on the item. The vice mayor moved approval with a second from Council Member Long. The council voted aye and the amendment passed unanimously. City staff confirmed the work covered by the amendment (design engineering and construction management) is already included in the adopted fiscal‑year capital budget.
Ending: The amendment preserves continuity for multiple capital projects and funds work already budgeted; staff said future project‑specific approvals will continue to follow standard procurement, budget and reporting procedures.
