Palm Bay city officials on Monday approved a renegotiated ground-lease agreement with T‑Mobile for a cell site at Friendly Park after staff renegotiations that staff said improved terms for the city.
City staff described the renegotiation as a deliberate effort to secure more favorable terms. “...the result of the new negotiations generates an additional $241,000 to the city of Palm Bay over the life of the cell tower, ground equipment lease,” Mr. Morton said.
Councilmembers praised staff for the outcome and noted the renegotiation could set a precedent for how the city approaches future telecommunications leases. A member of the public asked whether nearby private developments (Lotus Palms) would benefit from nearby towers or whether the city would receive lease revenue that otherwise might have gone to a private developer; staff did not provide a final allocation determination at the meeting.
Deputy Mayor Jaffe moved to approve the ground lease with T‑Mobile; the motion was seconded and passed unanimously. Council did not adopt additional conditions beyond the renegotiated lease terms discussed at the dais.
Staff said the outcome was the product of active negotiation and that the improved terms would provide additional revenue to the city over the lease term.
