Residents ask county to cancel Bellevue extension; say it will funnel traffic into neighborhoods

Ed Brannenberg of Aurora told the Arapahoe County Board of Commissioners on June 24 he represents residents in Copperleaf and Saddle Rock Ridge who oppose the Bellevue extension project between Tempe Street and Gun Club across Interstate 470.

Brannenberg said the project appears likely to be underused — because Quincy Street and Smoky Hill Road already serve as the main east‑west thoroughfares — or, if heavily used, would "dump a lot of excess traffic into a residential area on Tempe Street." He asked the board to formally cancel the Bellevue extension plan and said funds would be better spent repairing local roads.

The request was made during the meeting’s public‑comment period; the board did not take action on the request during the session and did not debate the project on the record at the June 24 meeting.
