LaSalle County planning staff reported the county’s recent household hazardous waste and electronics recycling event drew 809 cars and recommended holding two events next year with tentative dates on April 11 and Oct. 24.
Brian told the committee the event was "1 of our, larger events that we've had in recent time" and that the county has tentatively reserved April 11 and Oct. 24 for the 2026 season and will ask the contractor to prepare a contract for committee approval.
How it works: Staff explained the county works with a local event contractor (referred to as "A Team") that manages on‑site sorting and labor; the end‑product recycler (Dynamic, based in Wisconsin) handles transportation and recycling under a state manufacturer E‑waste program. Brian said the consortium covers transport and packaging costs; the county typically pays the on‑site collection contract, which last year cost about $20,000 per event.
Tires and hazardous waste: The committee heard the highway department will manage an approved county tire collection event for townships (not the general public); townships were to be notified by the highway department. For state household hazardous waste programs, Brian said the state now requires residents to express interest and submit forms; the state then schedules events and the county may see events every four to five years.
Next steps: Staff will proceed with contracting for two electronics/household hazardous waste events if costs remain comparable to last year and will bring contracts forward for committee approval.
