Commission approves medical/dental use permit at Wilkinson Lane property

The Lafayette Planning Commission unanimously approved a land-use permit for medical/dental services at 3547 Wilkinson Lane, allowing a pediatric dental office to occupy one of two existing single-story office buildings.

Planning staff explained the parcel contains two detached buildings and is located in the downtown core and retail specific plan area. A previous 2021 land-use permit authorizing medical use had expired without the applicant's knowledge; the current permit renews the authorization for Building B while Building A retains an existing office use. A separate design-review approval issued late last year updated Building B's exterior to more closely match Building A.

According to staff, the proposed clinic would operate primarily weekdays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., employ five staff and use existing on-site parking; no changes to hours, parking counts or operations were proposed. Staff received one public comment in support from an adjacent neighbor; referral agencies returned standard comments and no substantive concerns. Staff recommended the commission find the project exempt from CEQA and adopt the resolution approving the land-use permit subject to conditions.

The applicant, available on Zoom, thanked staff and had no additional comments. The commission opened and closed public comment with no speakers and approved the staff recommendation by unanimous vote. The permit restores permitted medical use for the building and allows the tenant to proceed with county building permits for interior tenant improvements.
