Aurora staff seek subscription traffic-monitoring software to speed stop‑sign and speed study responses

Ken (public works staff) described a proposed subscription traffic‑monitoring product that would use anonymized GPS data to estimate average daily traffic (ADT) and speeds at specific locations, reducing the need for onsite tube counts and shortening response times for aldermanic traffic study requests.

Alderman Oliver asked who would have access; Ken said traffic engineers would continue to handle requests, but the software would let engineers provide data faster so aldermen and constituents get quicker answers. Alderman Warman and others urged robust capabilities, including segmentalized speed data that could identify problem sections for APD enforcement.

Staff said they are running an RFQ and expect 6–12 vendors to respond; capabilities vary by vendor. Ken estimated monthly‑lagged data availability (roughly a month behind) but said some vendors might be faster. If approved, staff will return with an RFQ recommendation and a budget request for purchase or subscription.
