Main Street staff outline 2026 events calendar draft, construction timelines and tourism outreach

Main Street staff presented a first draft of the 2026 downtown events calendar and proposed edits for the board’s August approval meeting. Staff said some dates remain tentative and that Music on Main partnerships and some festival organizers are still confirming slots. One date change noted: the Hot Chocolate Frolic is expected to move to the 17th (final date pending).

Staff explained that the calendar draft will be finalized at the board’s August meeting and that organizers are working to confirm events such as a proposed music festival on Sept. 12 and whether Coffee Fest will participate. The board emphasized the need for dates so vendors and residents can plan; staff said finalized dates will be ready for the August meeting.

On construction and streetscape updates, staff reported the 300 Block project remains in active construction but that weather and heat have delayed work. Piazza (the contractor) has added crews to accelerate progress; staff could not confirm a firm reopen date for the 300 Block at the meeting. Staff said the larger Heritage Park project has an overall project completion target in mid‑2026 and that Music on Main could potentially be held while finishing touches are completed, but an official full completion date for Heritage Park was cited as June 8, 2026 (staff described that as the planned end‑project date but noted schedule risk).

Tourism staff reported grant administration changes and upcoming programming: the tourism board approved a more detailed grant application and follow‑up reporting requirements for tourism and historic preservation grants; a Hot Tax overview training for grant recipients is scheduled for Aug. 18; and the city’s sister‑city students are visiting and participating in Main Street activities this week.

Staff also summarized sales/visitation data compiled for the first six months of recent years and said downtown visits and activity have grown year over year: staff reported a roughly 2.4% increase from 2023 to 2024 and a roughly 2.22% increase from 2024 to 2025 in the metrics they reviewed. Staff cautioned that precise spending locations and distribution among downtown businesses were not specified in the meeting.

Board members and staff discussed logistics for future events, including vendor deadlines (an early access window for downtown businesses, then general public registration), emergency and ADA access at the park, and signage and promotional efforts (new historic district street toppers and tourism meet‑and‑greet events were highlighted).
