District confirms grant-funded Monday before-school program at McFarland elementary schools

District staff told the Othello School District Board that a grant the district wrote intentionally included a Monday morning before-school program at McFarland elementary schools to help families who have difficulty with Monday morning childcare.

"We actually wrote the grant to include a Monday morning part of the program. So, it it's official. It says a before and after school program, and so we intentionally put Mondays as our day that we're doing the before school program," Pete said. He said parents will need to register their children and that the program is intended as a regular, registered program rather than a drop-in service.

A student representative reported recent homecoming activities and thanked staff and leadership; board members who attended called the events a success.

Why it matters: The Monday before-school offering is intended to help families who face scheduling challenges at the start of the workweek and is part of the district’s broader out-of-school-time programming funded by the grant.

What’s next: Staff will publish registration details; parents are expected to register students for the Monday before-school slot rather than use it as a casual drop-in service.
