Homer Glen adopts resolution opposing larger, heavier commercial trucks

The Homer Glen Village Board voted unanimously to adopt Resolution 25-0112 asking the village’s federal representatives to oppose increases in commercial truck size and weight at the federal and state levels.

Trustee Mason summarized the board’s rationale, citing infrastructure damage and safety concerns on local roads if federal law permitted longer or heavier trucks. Mason said heavier trucks “will accelerate the wear and tear of our roads and our bridges” and pointed to longer stopping distances and reduced maneuverability as safety risks. The resolution — coordinated with the Coalition Against Bigger Trucks — will be forwarded to Sen. Dick Durbin, Sen. Tammy Duckworth and Rep. Jesus "Chuy" Garcia, according to remarks on the record.

Trustees Lepore, Holzhauser, Reinders, Mueller and Schaller voiced support during discussion, noting the village’s ongoing road projects and the financial burden of additional maintenance on local taxpayers. The roll-call vote was recorded as Aye by trustees present; the motion carried.
