Commission approves $930,622 change order to expand 2024 concrete sidewalk program to 2025 repairs

The commission approved a change order on Aug. 11 to include 2025 repairs under the 2024 concrete sidewalk repair contract, authorizing work across several residential neighborhoods, downtown streets and parks for a not‑to‑exceed sum of $930,622.10.

Scope: The added work covers sidewalk repairs in Residential Area 8 (the city’s northeast quadrant), downtown sidewalk patches and park entrance repairs (Shane Park, Lincoln Mall Park, Crestview Park, and Pierce Park), scattered alley/sidewalk patches identified under engineering permits, and concrete patching on local and major streets including portions of Bates, Lincoln, Maple, Merrill and Pierce streets. Local street repairs named in the packet include Donmar, Clark, Hamilton and Smith avenues and Commerce Street.

Contractor and price: Atalia, the contractor that completed the 2024 program, agreed to hold unit pricing for 2025 work; the change order covers materials and construction under the same contract pricing. Staff said the work will be coordinated with ongoing projects and that property owners and businesses will receive notice when street or sidewalk access is affected.

Outcome: The commission approved the change order on a roll‑call vote and directed staff to move forward with scheduling and notifications.

Ending: The work addresses widespread sidewalk and localized street deterioration; staff said the change order allows timely repairs to multiple locations under the established contractor rather than separate procurements.
