Judicial Council asks board to assist with workforce survey; board asks staff for more information

The Court Reporters Board of California received a request from the Judicial Council to conduct a workforce survey of court reporters to better understand the licensed population and changes over time. Staff told the board the Judicial Council offered to provide feedback and help develop survey questions.

Miss Fenner said she and the chair will meet with the Judicial Council the following day and will report back to the board with details. Board members raised concerns about expense and staff workload, given competing priorities such as reciprocity work and efforts to increase licensee numbers; one board member said they did not see an immediate benefit to the board and asked for more information before committing staff time.

No motion or formal action was taken. Staff will meet with the Judicial Council and return to the board with answers to questions about cost, scope and the intended use of the results.
