Recreation committee flags Perris Park pavilion, grill and playground for maintenance and grant exploration

Committee members told the Recreation Committee that Perris Park Pavilion and its playground need attention for maintenance and potential replacement.

Members described a pavilion grill that appears to be leaning and concrete footings with exposed wiring where lampposts or electrical connections formerly stood. One member asked, "are those wires active?" and staff said they would check and address any potential hazard.

The pavilion and playground show signs of age; committee members suggested a resident meeting or site visit to gather feedback on desired upgrades. Committee members said playground components appear sturdy but need "TLC" and noted exposed rust on some elements. One council member encouraged exploring grants targeted at playground replacement to fund improvements that residents may support.

On policy and safety matters, staff said the grill should be left to cool in place and that signage ("no dumping hot coals") and better user education could reduce charcoal dumping near the pavilion. Service staff committed to investigating electrical footings and bringing cost estimates and safety fixes to a future meeting.

The committee agreed to consider a resident meeting at Perris Park to collect input that could shape grant applications or budget requests for playground and pavilion rehabilitation.
