Kokomo sets bidding schedule for Northside Interceptor improvements tied to CSO plan

The Kokomo City Board of Public Works and Safety on Aug. 27 approved plans and a bidding schedule for the Northside Interceptor Improvements Project, part of the city's combined sewer overflow long‑term control plan.

John Piker, director of engineering, told the board the project "includes the construction of approximately 7,070 linear feet of sanitary sewer ranging from 18 to 78 inches in diameter installed using open cut construction methods." He also said the work includes "2,990 linear feet of existing north side interceptor cleaning and televising." Sheet G5 in the attached drawings shows the proposed alignment.

The board approved the proposed advertising and bid schedule: Advertisement No. 1 on Sept. 5, Advertisement No. 2 on Sept. 12, a pre-bid meeting on Sept. 16, and public bid opening at 10 a.m. Eastern on Oct. 1, 2025. The board instructed staff to receive construction bids on that schedule under project number C2504-1A.

Why it matters: The interceptor work is a major component of Kokomo's combined sewer overflow controls and will require significant excavation and coordination with existing utilities. The bidding schedule sets immediate deadlines for contractors and signals when construction procurement will begin.

Board action: The board approved the plans and bidding schedule as presented by the engineering department.
