Clute council retires to closed session for city manager evaluation, directs staff to circulate evaluation form and schedule special meeting

The Clute City Council entered a closed executive session Oct. 9 under the Texas Open Meetings Act, citing Tex. Gov’t Code §551.074 for deliberation of a personnel matter: the annual evaluation of the city manager. The council subsequently returned to open session and recorded limited follow-up actions.

On resuming open session Mayor Calvin Chipplet instructed the city clerk to email council members the final page of the evaluation form in a file format that members can type on. Council members also requested that staff poll members for availability and post a special meeting as soon as a date that accommodates all members can be found.

Council did not disclose or discuss any evaluation contents in open session. The actions recorded in the minutes are procedural: circulate the evaluation form’s last page in an editable format and schedule a follow-up special meeting to complete the process with all members present.
