Planning commission chair announces seizure, submits resignation after move out of city

The chair of the Gahanna Planning Commission told the commission on Aug. 13 that he experienced a grand mal seizure the Sunday before the prior meeting and described being resuscitated by his wife before arriving at the hospital. He said doctors attributed the episode in part to recent cancer treatments but that scans showed no new tumors and that he has had no subsequent episodes.

The chair said as a family they are moving out of the City of Gahanna and that he no longer meets the residency requirement to remain on the planning commission. He said he has submitted his resignation to Mayor Chadwin and indicated the Aug. 13 meeting would likely be his last.

Commissioners and the mayor offered condolences and thanked him for his service since 2017. Commissioners noted his institutional knowledge and leadership; several colleagues expressed appreciation for his mentorship and wished him well. The commission accepted the announcement as a matter of record and continued with the agenda.
