Sierra Vista council members approved a substantial amendment to the city’s 2024 action plan, reallocating leftover Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funds from a completed project to the Phase 1 development of Henry Jones Legacy Park.
Blake Fisher told council the Montebello Fire Safety Improvement Project closed under budget and left $177,406.80 in CDBG funds available for reallocation. "Staff recommended the leftover grant funds from the Montebello project be reallocated to the Henry Jones Legacy Park phase 1 development," Fisher said. He said Phase 1 includes the park’s northern section and public-infrastructure improvements along FAB Avenue.
Fisher said the design work is ongoing and out to bid; staff is anticipating finalization in December. The staff estimate for Phase 1 work is $1,234,000, and the public-comment period for the proposed substantial amendment ended yesterday with no comments received.
Councilmember Ken Kilmery praised the ability to reallocate under-run funds and the staff recommendation. The council approved submission of the substantial amendment to the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development by voice vote.
