Miami County awards $43,072 repair contract for transfer station to KB Construction

The Miami County Board of County Commissioners approved a contract to KB Construction for repairs at the county transfer station after staff presented two competing quotes.

Griffin Bindendorf, assistant road and bridge director, told the commission they received two bids: one for $43,072.44 and a larger proposal for $273,332 that included engineering and stronger materials designed to prevent future damage. Bindendorf recommended awarding KB Construction the $43,072.44 contract and "reevaluate the needs down the road for the transfer station." He said some repair costs may be reimbursed by Waste Management and that county insurance questions were being handled by a separate staff member.

Commissioner Diederger moved to award the contract to KB Construction and a second was recorded; the motion passed unanimously in a 5-0 vote.

Minutes and the posted agenda list two estimates and the county accepted the lower proposal at this meeting. No specification for warranty periods, construction timeline, or contingencies was presented on the record during the meeting; staff said additional evaluation could occur later.
