Committee reviews $96,000 in food-service equipment replacements and a masonry-related roof change order

The Cheltenham School District committee reviewed forthcoming requests to approve about $96,000 in replacements for food-service equipment and a separate change order of roughly $41,000 to address masonry and drainage issues on a high-school roof.

"You'd be asking, why do we have 2 steamers?" Josh (staff member) said while outlining the food-service equipment needs. He explained one steamer had not worked all year and the other was "on his last legs," and that multiple pieces — including a steam table and a convection oven — were semi-functioning or not functioning at all. Josh said the total approximate cost for the equipment replacements is $96,000 and that the purchases would be funded from the cash account of the food-service fund.

Josh also described a single change order for a partial roof replacement project at the high school tied primarily to repointing and replacing damaged brick and addressing insufficient drainage. "Part of that $41,000 change where it's to repoint and replace brickwork. There is also insufficient water water drainage coming from that bridal. So a hydro set coating needs to be applied to the outside of the bridal, top of the roof, so the moisture doesn't get behind the brick and the roof and wood and, boiler forms," he said. Josh noted that, per board policy, change orders over $10,000 are approved at the board level.

No vote was taken at the committee meeting on either the food-service purchases or the roof change order; Josh said the equipment purchases "will be up for approval next week." Committee members indicated no further questions at the meeting.
