Council approves $1.2 million in pay requests for Crawfordsville Road pedestrian project

SPEEDWAY, Ind. — Speedway’s Town Council on Oct. 8 approved the first two pay requests from OCCO Incorporated for the Crawfordsville Road pedestrian improvement project, covering work through June and July, totaling $1,207,822.30.

Town staff presented the figures: pay request number 1 was $350,485.48; pay request number 2 brings the total to $1,207,822.30. Staff recommended approval of both requests and the council approved them by a 3-0 vote.

Kleinheins updated members on construction: crews are down to one lane in areas while medians are finished and the contractor is working to reopen lanes where possible. "They're projecting at this point, I think, the November" for the traffic signal, Kleinheins said. She estimated some lanes could reopen in about one to two weeks for certain segments.

Councilors noted lane reductions and slowdowns during construction; staff said the contractor is keeping the site tidy and maintaining traffic flow as work continues. No changes to the contract terms were reported at the meeting.
