Local restaurateur tells board data‑center development is a "lifeline" for schools; exchange grows heated

PJ Kat Cameron of 3646 Navarre Avenue addressed the board during the Oct. 6 public comment period and called on trustees to support data‑center development as a source of revenue for the schools.

"I know what $10,000,000 a year would do for schools," PJ Kat Cameron said, advocating for the development at a candidates' forum and asking board members to set aside personal disputes until the community decides on the project.

Cameron described years of private donations and in‑kind work for Oregon City Schools and said he would continue supporting the district while urging cooperation around the potential development. "We're losing revenue," he said, arguing that new local development can help stabilize school funding.

An exchange followed between Cameron and boardroom members after his remarks. At one point a board member interjected to question items tied to community events and signage; Cameron responded that his criminal record had been raised and said, "I don't care about my record," while defending his support for schools.

Board Chair (or presiding official) moved to end the exchange and thanked Cameron for speaking. Cameron closed his remarks by thanking the board for the time and saying he hoped not to remain a frequent attendee.

The board did not take any formal action tied to Cameron's comments during the meeting; Cameron asked the board to consider the potential financial benefit of the data‑center development as an item for future district consideration.
