Ed Mateo announces run for Simsbury Board of Selectmen, emphasizes measured growth and tax restraint

Ed Mateo, a candidate for the Simsbury Board of Selectmen, announced his run and said he will focus on controlling municipal spending, promoting “smart measured growth” and attracting new business to help keep property taxes down.

Mateo said he grew up in Simsbury and still has family in the town, and that his long involvement with local youth sports informs his view of community priorities. “I support smart measured growth that strengthens our community without straining our resources,” Mateo said.

The candidate described his personal ties to the town and local volunteer experience as foundations for his campaign. He said he and his wife raised four children in Simsbury and that he has worked with youth organizations and coached at the high school level for more than 20 years. “I want to serve you. I want to strategically help Simsbury grow while preserving what makes it special,” Mateo said.

Mateo called for a vision plan for Simsbury that addresses immediate concerns while creating a pathway for future growth and said he wants to hear residents’ concerns. He also said he is “committed to driving tactical new business to help keep property taxes under control and strengthen our financial future.”

He described himself as part of a slate of candidates and asked voters for their support.
