Local resident urges Hollywood Park EDC to support Bexar County propositions for Stock Show takeover

Ethan Little, a 25-year Hollywood Park resident and volunteer with the San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo, used the EDC's citizen-participation slot to ask for local support of Bexar County ballot propositions A and B.

Little said the Stock Show & Rodeo awarded about $12.7 million in scholarships, grants and premiums last year and that, if the organization took over operation of additional facilities (contingent on Spurs relocation plans), projected economic impact to the San Antonio area could rise from about $330 million to roughly $750 million. Little said expanded, year-round uses of improved facilities would increase scholarship funding and events such as FFA conventions.

Little asked whether Hollywood Park could help by posting signage and distributing information; he said volunteers would appreciate the EDC's assistance placing signs near City Hall and aiding outreach. Board members asked clarifying questions about what each proposition would do: Little differentiated "Proposition A" as relating to the Stock Show & Rodeo's role and "Proposition B" as relating to the county's portion of a new arena for the Spurs, and said either proposition could pass without the other.

The remarks were delivered during the citizen-participation portion; no board action on the propositions was requested or taken at the meeting.
