Council amends transit lease to add EV charger decommissioning plan

The Saco City Council unanimously approved an amendment to its lease with Biddeford Saco Old Orchard Beach Transit (BSOOB Transit) to require a decommissioning plan for any installed electric-vehicle chargers.

Councilor Hatch said the decommissioning requirement was added because of prior experience with an unused windmill structure and that the amendment reflects agreement with BSOOB Transit. "I thought it was ... very appropriate with the agreement of BSOOB Transit to have this decommissioning plan in place," Hatch said.

The amendment was offered as a second reading and included language developed during the planning board review process. The change requires that a decommissioning plan be incorporated into the lease so that chargers can be properly removed or addressed at the end of their service life. The order passed on roll call 7-0.
