Select Board approves Sean Mahaney as reserve police officer pending state reciprocity and local training

The Select Board voted on July 29, 2025, to approve adding Sean Mahaney to the town's reserve police roster, contingent on state certification by Maine authorities and completion of the local MTO training program.

Staff said the chief of police recommended Mahaney; he was previously a full-time police officer in Georgia, relocated to the area and works in security at Pratt & Whitney. The board held a motion and second to accept the appointment and voted to proceed; staff said they have received some of the reciprocity paperwork and will pursue the remainder with the state. The chief will also provide local training through the town's MTO program.

Why it matters: Adding a reserve officer will increase the department's patrol capacity and help fill a gap left by the promotion of another officer to full-time status.
