Claypool Council Approves $176K Drainage Project to Aid Louis Dreyfus Expansion

During a recent government meeting, officials discussed critical drainage issues affecting the town of Claypool and the nearby Louis Dreyfus facility. The conversation highlighted concerns about stormwater infiltrating the sanitary sewer system, which is vital for the operations of Louis Dreyfus, a significant local employer.

The focus shifted to the Southeast Side of town, where officials noted that improvements are necessary to address drainage problems. A county-regulated drain, which is essential for managing water flow in the area, requires reconstruction to effectively handle the stormwater issues. This drain also serves a portion of the railroad, which is believed to be important for the potential expansion of Louis Dreyfus.

The town of Claypool has proposed tapping into the county-regulated tile with an 18-inch pipe to alleviate their drainage concerns. However, the existing tile is only 12 inches, indicating that a reconstruction is necessary to accommodate the larger pipe. This reconstruction will primarily benefit the town and its farmers, who are currently facing challenges due to the inadequate drainage system.
