Commissioners Delay Public Hearings for Zone Changes on Johnson Lane and Woodland Road

Yellowstone County officials have decided to postpone two significant zone change public hearings until August 8, 2023, during their meeting on July 25. This decision comes after requests from applicants seeking more time to address community concerns and gather additional input.

The first zone change, concerning 705 Johnson Lane, involves a request to shift from mixed-use and residential zoning to heavy commercial. The applicant's representative, John Halverson from Sanderson Stewart, emphasized the importance of having the full commission present for the discussion due to a split vote recommendation from the zoning commission. The commissioners unanimously agreed to continue the hearing to ensure all voices are heard.

Similarly, the second zone change request for 2422 Old Hardin Road and Woodland Road was also postponed. The zoning commission had recommended denial of this request, but the applicant expressed a desire to reconsider their approach. The commissioners supported the request for an extension, allowing for further community engagement and discussion.

Commissioner Morse noted that public comments are still being accepted, and the hearing remains open for additional input leading up to the next meeting. This proactive approach aims to ensure that all stakeholders have the opportunity to participate in the decision-making process.
