Yellowstone County Commissioners Hold Public Hearing on Community Development Block Grant Funds

Yellowstone County Commissioners held a significant public hearing on March 21, 2023, focusing on the allocation of Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funds. This meeting marked the first of two required public hearings aimed at gathering community input on potential projects that could benefit from these federal funds.

Tom McLean from Big Sky Economic Development presented details about the CDBG program, which is designed to support low to moderate-income households through various initiatives, including affordable housing development, public facilities improvements, and economic development projects. The maximum grant amount for housing projects is $750,000, while public facilities can receive up to $750,000 with a 25% match required. Economic development funds are also available to stimulate job creation in the private sector.

The hearing provided an opportunity for citizens to voice their needs and suggest specific projects for consideration. Although no public comments were made during the session, the commissioners emphasized the importance of community feedback in deciding which projects to sponsor for CDBG applications.

In addition to the CDBG discussion, the commissioners approved a resolution to change the name of ExxonMobil Road to Par Montana Road, with a public hearing scheduled for April 4, 2023. The meeting concluded with the approval of several claims and the consent agenda, reflecting the ongoing administrative functions of the county.

This public hearing is a crucial step in ensuring that Yellowstone County can effectively utilize CDBG funds to address community needs and enhance local infrastructure and services.
