Forest Hills Students Innovate with Grants for Mars Mission and Food Production

The Forest Hills Public Schools Board of Education held its regular meeting on March 18, 2024, where several key topics were discussed, highlighting student achievements and staff recognition.

The meeting began with a presentation showcasing the hard work of students involved in innovative programs. A video, approximately 40 seconds long, illustrated the efforts of students engaged in a career readiness program. Notably, two teachers, Avery and Dave, collaborated to secure grants for unique projects, including flight simulators and Martian soil experiments. These initiatives allow students to learn about space travel and agriculture on Mars, fostering creativity and critical thinking.

Board members expressed their appreciation for the engaging learning environments observed during school visits. One member recounted visiting Central Middle School, where students were actively participating in hands-on projects, including medical detective work. The enthusiasm and engagement of the students were highlighted as a testament to the effective teaching methods employed in the classrooms.

Following the student presentations, the meeting shifted to a recognition segment. Jonathan Gohi, the athletic director from Central High School, introduced Carol, the administrative assistant, who was honored as the Administrative Assistant of the Year by the Michigan Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association. Gohi praised Carol for her dedication and support to student athletes and staff, emphasizing her willingness to assist others and her presence at various school events. Carol expressed her gratitude for the recognition and reflected on her positive experiences since joining the Forest Hills community.

The meeting concluded with a sense of pride in the accomplishments of both students and staff, underscoring the commitment of Forest Hills Public Schools to fostering a supportive and innovative educational environment.
