The San Francisco Student Advisory Council (SAC) held a meeting on May 25, 2021, where several key topics were discussed, including the announcement of the new student delegate, recognition of graduating seniors, and updates on the ethnic studies requirement.
During the meeting, Student Delegate Hines Foster and Correa Almanza announced that Joanna Lam has been elected as the student delegate for the 2021-2022 school year. The SAC emphasized the importance of preserving democracy and advocating for student voices, regardless of the challenges posed by distance learning.
In a show of appreciation for their commitment, graduating seniors will receive special sashes from the SAC during their graduation ceremony. This initiative aims to honor their dedication to student advocacy.
The council also discussed the implementation of the ethnic studies requirement across schools. Feedback from student focus groups was shared, highlighting the SAC's commitment to ensuring that student voices are central to this important educational initiative.
Looking ahead, the SAC plans to engage in interim elections to establish leadership for the upcoming school year. The next meeting is scheduled for May 28 at 3 PM, and the public is invited to attend.
In addition to these discussions, the meeting included a celebration of achievements, with scholarships awarded to ten recipients by the United Administrators of San Francisco, each receiving $1,500.
The meeting concluded with congratulations to the graduating seniors and a special birthday acknowledgment for Student Delegate Heinz Foster, who turned 18 on the same day.
