Doctor Tim Ritter presents significant student growth data at Soda Creek school meeting

The Steamboat Springs School Board held a business meeting on June 3, 2026, where significant progress in student performance data was highlighted, particularly in early literacy and mathematics. Dr. Tim Ritter presented a comprehensive overview of the district's academic achievements, emphasizing the positive impact of the Early Literacy Grant (ELG) and various assessment tools.

Dr. Ritter noted that while parents have access to individual student CMAS data, collective data will be available at the start of the school year. He expressed excitement over the progress made, particularly in reading proficiency among students categorized as "well below benchmark." The data showed a decrease in this category from 31% to 29% over the year, indicating significant growth.

The presentation outlined a three-part rollout of data across board meetings, focusing first on vendor data, followed by disaggregated data, and concluding with School Performance Frameworks (SPFs). The ELG grant has been instrumental in driving improvements, with all schools meeting the goal of students making above-average progress toward grade-level reading proficiency.

In addition to early grades, data from fourth and fifth grades were also included, showing overall growth in reading proficiency across the district. The board discussed the importance of addressing the needs of special populations and ensuring equitable growth for all students.
