Van Buren County Court Approves Budget Adjustment for Deputy Prosecutor's Office

During the January 2024 Quorum Court meeting in Van Buren County, a key discussion centered around an appropriation ordinance aimed at adjusting the county's annual operating budget for 2023. Sponsored by Justice Holcomb, the ordinance seeks to amend the original budget by allocating an additional $636.37 to the deputy prosecutor's office.

The adjustment comes after an overage in the supplies category, which was addressed through funds received from the deputy prosecutor's office's hot check fee account. Specifically, $424 will be directed towards maintenance and service contracts, while $212.37 will be allocated for general supplies.

Justice Holcomb explained that the overage was anticipated due to some miscommunication regarding bill payments. Instead of the deputy prosecutor's office covering the costs, the county inadvertently paid the bills, necessitating this budget amendment to reimburse the county without requesting additional funds.

The motion to adopt the ordinance received a second and was met with no further discussion, indicating a smooth approval process. This adjustment reflects the county's commitment to maintaining budgetary integrity while managing operational expenses effectively.
