Manassas Park Schools Celebrate Teacher of the Year Leah Behanna and Scholarship Winners

The Manassas Park City Schools held a regular school board meeting on May 16, 2022, where several significant achievements and recognitions were highlighted. The meeting commenced with the Pledge of Allegiance, followed by the approval of the agenda and consent agenda without opposition.

A key focus of the meeting was the Superintendent's Spotlight, led by Dr. Grasser, who celebrated the accomplishments of local educators and students. Notably, Leah Behanna, a teacher at Manassas Park Middle School, was honored as the Washington Post Teacher of the Year. Dr. Seloff, her principal, praised her innovative teaching methods, which include practical life skills and mental health discussions, emphasizing her impact on students' lives.

The meeting also recognized Chloe Meyer from Manassas Park High School for receiving the prestigious V B O D A Sydney Berg scholarship, awarded to only one music student in Virginia. Chloe plans to attend the University of Michigan to study instrumental music education.

Additionally, seven students from Manassas Park High School were selected to participate in the American Legion Auxiliary Girls State program, an initiative designed to educate young women about government and citizenship. Originally, only three students were to be chosen, but all seven impressed the selection committee with their interviews.

The meeting concluded with a celebration of these achievements, showcasing the dedication and talent within the Manassas Park educational community. The board's recognition of these accomplishments underscores the importance of fostering student engagement and excellence in education.
