Rock Canyon Preservation Alliance clarifies land purchase funding details

During a recent Utah County Commission meeting, officials discussed the financial details surrounding the acquisition of land for conservation purposes, which is part of a larger $6 million construction project. The conversation highlighted the costs associated with two significant land purchases, including a mining deed from February 2016 for approximately $1.2 million and an 18-acre parcel aimed at preserving the Rock Canyon area.

Commissioners noted that the Rock Canyon Preservation Alliance played a crucial role in funding the land purchase, raising over half of the necessary funds, which amounted to around $160,000. The county contributed $38,000 towards this effort, emphasizing the collaborative nature of the project and the community's commitment to protecting the area from development.

The discussion also clarified that the total project cost of $6 million does not include these earlier land acquisition expenses. Instead, the funds are allocated specifically for construction and related activities. The conservation easement established on the land will be co-managed by the Rock Canyon Preservation Alliance and the city, ensuring ongoing protection of this vital natural space.
