City Council approves $1M insurance policy for event planning

A proposal to reduce insurance coverage for an upcoming event sparked discussion at the Utah County Commission meeting on December 14, 2022. The event, which will feature a live stream quartet, a catered dinner, and themed vendors, is facing challenges in securing a $3 million insurance policy. In response, organizers requested a reduction to a $1 million coverage.

Commissioners expressed their willingness to accommodate this request, noting that similar adjustments had been made for past events, particularly dances. One commissioner confirmed, “I’m fine with doing that as long as it’s been consistent with things that we’ve done in the past.”

The motion to approve the reduced insurance coverage was swiftly passed with a unanimous vote of 3-0, demonstrating the commission's support for the event and its organizers.

In addition to this discussion, the commission also addressed a ratification item but decided to hold it for further discussion due to the late arrival of additional information. This indicates a careful approach to decision-making, ensuring all relevant details are considered before finalizing any agreements.
