The Utah County Commission meeting on July 14, 2021, highlighted the significant contributions of Chris Buckley, a victim coordinator in the Utah County Attorney's Office, who was recognized as Employee of the Month for July. Buckley's role as a liaison between victims and prosecuting attorneys has proven crucial in ensuring that victims receive the support they need during the often overwhelming criminal justice process.
Commissioner Sakovich praised Buckley’s dedication, noting that her efforts have been instrumental in facilitating victim participation in trials, which can often be a barrier to justice. “Without her season and insightful contributions, many cases would fail to make it to trial due to wavering or nonexistent victim participation,” Sakovich stated. Buckley’s work, particularly with a child victim with special needs, exemplifies her commitment, as she provided unwavering support over five years, culminating in a successful jury trial.
In her acceptance speech, Buckley expressed gratitude for the recognition, emphasizing that her work is not about seeking glory but about making a difference in the lives of victims. She also highlighted the need for more victim coordinators to assist with the growing number of cases.
The meeting also addressed various agenda items, including the approval of a request for proposals (RFP) for inmate tablet services, which was awarded to Securus Technologies, and a dental service RFP awarded to RL Klein Associates. Both proposals were deemed satisfactory, with the latter involving local subcontractors to provide services.
As the meeting progressed, several items were tabled for further discussion, including tax actions related to property tax penalties. The commission's focus on these matters reflects ongoing efforts to enhance community support and ensure effective governance in Utah County.
