Armando Montero elected president and Sarah James vice president of Tempe Union Board

Armando Montero has been elected as the new president of the Tempe Union High School District Governing Board, following a unanimous vote during the board meeting on January 10, 2024. Montero's nomination was seconded by Member Hodge, and all members present voted in favor, resulting in a 5-0 decision.

In addition to Montero's election, Sarah James was nominated and confirmed as vice president, also receiving unanimous support from the board members. The swift elections signal a strong start for the new leadership team.

The meeting also highlighted the achievements of the Marcos Deniza High School badminton team, which recently completed a historic season. The varsity team finished with an impressive record of 11-3 and qualified for the AIA Division 2 Team State Tournament. Notably, the doubles team of senior Naya Luxe and freshman Leanne Pan not only participated in the state tournament but also emerged victorious, concluding their season undefeated with a remarkable record of 20-0.

Coach Claudia Ramirez expressed pride in the team's accomplishments, emphasizing the significance of their success after reviving the badminton program in 2015. The team looks forward to celebrating their achievements with a new banner in the gymnasium and championship rings on the way.
